Announcement: New Gallery in Seoul, Deoksu Palace

Duarte Sequeira is pleased to announce the opening of its second space in Seoul, South Korea.

 

Located in the Jeong Dong historic district, Duarte Sequeira Deoksu Palace will extend the galleries programme in Asia with an emphasis on providing a unique venue for artists within the historic heart of the city.

 

Duarte Sequeira Deoksu Palace will be located in a new building designed by Min, Kyung Sik on the site of Jung Deok Won, the office of Insoo Daebi, Queen of Joseon Dynasty. This culturally significant site haas also served as the home for Kyungsung Broadcasting Station. Owned by Korean traditional F&B company Congdu, the new building will house a cultural platform named Space Sophora with Duarte Sequeira acting as the exclusive art and curatorial programmer with its own gallery space on the site. The Jeong Dong area is the birthplace of modern culture in South Korea with excellent cultural infrastructure, connecting the sites such as Seoul Museum of Art, Deoksugung Contemporary Museum of Art and Jeong Dong Theater.

 

Opening on 5th September 2023, the first exhibition will be with American artist Pieter Schoolwerth, his first solo presentation in South Korea.
