Young Do Jeong : Give Me Your Hand

5 Oct - 30 Nov 2024 Braga HQ
Overview

Known for his imaginative figuration and playful doodling strokes on large canvases, the exhibition features fifteen works created in Braga and Seoul, South Korea. The title piece, Give Me Your Hand (2021-24), portrays figures with outstretched hands, symbolizing unity and collective experiences. He employs both intentional and accidental marks as key elements--similar to how video games create worlds based on player choices, Jeong fills his canvases with a mix of deliberate planning and intuitive spontaneity. Jeong opens up the space for the importance of human connection, especially in times of uncertainty, suggests the possibility of new beginnings, a visual narrative of togetherness.

Young Do Jeong was born in 1985 in Seoul, where he lives and works. He received his BFA in painting at Rhode Island School of Design (Providence, US) and an MFA in painting and drawing at Tyler School of Art at Temple University (Philadelphia, US). His artworks are included in the collections of K11 Foundation (Hong Kong), Brookhaven College (Farmers Branch, US), and Art Bank of National Museum of Contemporary art, Korea (Seoul, South Korea) among others.
