Tom Howse: Twilight Symphonies Of The Analogue Frog
Duarte Sequeira is thrilled to inaugurate its new exhibition space in Seoul with “Twilight Symphonies Of The Analogue Frog”, a solo exhibition by Tom Howse.
The exhibition comprises a series of fourteen new paintings that raise questions regarding human behaviour, emotions, life, its banality, absurdity and beauty. Tom Howse presents strangely beautiful and eerie landscapes and homely interiors incorporating windows, paintings, rugs, plants and furniture as tools to connect or escape from one reality to another. He is interested in the human inclination to rationalize existence with narratives to help relieve the fear of the unknown. Thus, he creates a world of fractals and invites the viewer to be transported into an image within an image. Interested in world-building, Howse´s paintings hold a strong sense of tenderness and compassion for the figures and their interactions. These imaginative compositions of destabilized realities, humorously refigure the hierarchy of living beings and explore the balance between stability, reality, fantasy, human desire and simultaneous inability to comprehend the world.
