Galeria Duarte Sequeira is pleased to present the debut solo exhibition of Lily Kemp at ARCO Madrid 2021, Opening section, Booth 9OP02.
Through the initial process of collaging together found imagery, this new series of paintings explores alternative narratives around how women and women’s bodies are portrayed and consumed in Western art history and visual culture.
Kemp weaves images of women from mass media alongside images of agricultural and natural landscapes to create imagined worlds within her paintings. Situated someplace between the worlds found in socialist realist works and those found in mass media and fashion photography, this new series of works offers a glimpse into the quiet moments, the moments of reflection, rest and daydreaming, while creating a collective vision that explores alternative narratives and re-imagined possibilities of the future.
