Maya Weishof Curitiba, Brazil, b. 1993

Overview

Maya Weishof was born in 1993 in Curitiba, Brazil, and lives and works in São Paulo. She graduated with a BA in Visual Arts from the Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) in 2016.

Weishof works mainly in painting and drawing on surfaces such as canvas and fabric, with the aim of expanding the figurative possibilities of painting. She conceives images through fragments, distortions, caricatures and hybrid creatures, revealing bodies and landscapes that begin and end in one another. Drawing is the core of her practice, built from memories, myths and scenes that dialogue with the history of art, or more specifically, with the history of images. Her work resists a linear or self-contained narrative, opening the figurative to an imaginary of multiple semantic unfoldings.

Some of her solo exhibitions include Room of Masks at Almeida & Dale, São Paulo (2026); Fever Nights at Galerie Hussenot, Paris (2022); and Headless at Kupfer, London (2021).
