Scott Young: Decoy

Duarte Sequeira is delighted to announce Decoy, the first solo exhibition of artist Scott Young in Seoul, opening its doors on March 15th.

Young presents a series of new paintings and sculpture which explore the imageand affects of rural environments. Pairing rugged individualism with its own simulation in media, the artist questions how these manufactured ideals subtly dictate behavior. Imitation wood textures executed in trompe l’oeil techniques echo the simulated brawn of Country & Western music. Through painting, Young confronts the belief of the authentic self in the digital age. Decoy echoes this artificiality through a ready-made corn in cage sculpture, decorative plates, and the idea of painting as always already ‘ready-made’.

Scott Young lives and works in London, UK. Young received a BA in Philosophy & Aesthetics from The Evergreen State College, Washington, US (2010), and an MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London, UK (2022). During his masters in 2020, Young took a six-month hiatus to study traditional decorative wood and marble painting techniques, at Van der Kelen Logelain, Brussels, BE.
